h3o is an architecture and design studio founded in 2017 in Barcelona by Joan Gener González (1989), Adrià Orriols Camps (1989), and Miquel Ruiz Planella (1990).

Since its foundation, the studio has approached architecture as a practice capable of engaging with the physical, social, and cultural context of each commission. Through a critical and experimental lens, we work with drawing, model-making, and conversation as tools to imagine and build meaningful spaces.

Our projects operate at multiple scales, with a particular focus on public space and public works, renovation, and interior architecture. Notable works include Casa Relámpago, a domestic renovation inspired by a family legend; the Arenys de Mar Library, which transforms the former Clarisses convent; the Hybrid Parliament in Rotterdam (winner of EUROPAN 15 and currently under construction); and the interior refurbishment of the Castell de Montjuïc in Barcelona.

In parallel, we develop a critical practice linked to curatorship and contemporary architectural discourse. We have presented installations such as Nomad Assembly at Model. Festival of Architectures of Barcelona, and curated Fora de Si, a performance cycle within the 2024 Architecture Weeks. For over eight years, we have also contributed to the curatorial program of the h2o gallery.

We combine professional practice with teaching at ETSAB (UPC) and ETSALS (La Salle Barcelona), and have been invited as guest critics at several academic institutions. Our work seeks to open up new spatial and social possibilities that resonate with the challenges of our time, thanks also to the team that walks with us — and has walked with us — throughout this collective journey.

The current team includes Joan Gener, Adrià Orriols, Miquel Ruiz, Inés Aguilar, Celeste Francese, Marc Huguet and Daniel Fernández.

We would like to express our gratitude to all those who have collaborated with us over the years. Their diverse backgrounds and knowledge have been essential in shaping h3o’s unique voice: Daniel Gómez Massana, Ariana Ribas Garcia, Uxía Varela Expósito, Jordi Mengual Estarca, Rebeca López Allué, Paula Widomska, Clara Schmidhauser, Dite Mickevičiūtė, Ramon Illan Salas, Eli Rafanell, Bernat Guinot Julià, Laura Bravo Regueira, Alberto Calderón Ventura, Morgane Wolf, Elisa Gandolfi, Damien Troilo, Marcel Heras Toledo, Lucas Dumortier, Hannah Mair
