Youth Center in Sant Vicenç Montalt

The new Youth Space in Sant Vicenç de Montalt is conceived as a local public facility designed to be naturally appropriated by the town’s young people. Far from the institutional character that often defines this kind of building, the project embraces a welcoming architecture rooted in domestic and everyday scale. Its interior is structured around a central, multi-purpose space —a large, flexible room that can be configured in various ways: fully open, closed off, or partially divided. This versatility allows the space to host a wide range of activities, from workshops or study sessions to concerts and open gatherings.

The materials used —such as timber ceilings and warm, continuous finishes— help create a comfortable and familiar atmosphere, designed to receive without imposing. The choice of construction systems and materials also responds to environmental criteria, with a clear intention to reduce the project’s ecological footprint and optimize its energy performance over time. The exterior patio acts as a natural extension of the interior, with direct access and visual continuity that encourages a seamless indoor-outdoor relationship. This outdoor area expands the range of uses and reinforces the project’s open and inclusive identity.

The facility has been designed with the aim of becoming a meaningful tool for youth empowerment —a space not to be merely admired, but inhabited, managed, and transformed from within. The project sees architecture as a driver for connection, learning, and community, and therefore opts for a clear, efficient, sustainable, and flexible solution that’s ready to embrace whatever the future may bring.
