…It is said in the village that a long time ago there was a storm of lightnings and thunderstorms as rarely seen before. All the inhabitants of Sant Just went hiding inside their houses and looked at the sky behind the windows with big fear. It was at that moment that a lightning fell on the old Can Cardona farmhouse, entering through the chimney and making a great noise.
The lightning transformed into a ball of flames and burst out of the fireplace, surprising the whole family who was hugging each other under the table. They watched the flame going round and round the room… It was just a few seconds, but the family had the feeling that it took forever.
“They have survived!” was said with joy in every street and square when somebody saw them. And this is how the incredible story of the Cardona’s lightning reached our days, told from parents to children..
THE LIGHTNING HAS ENTERED AGAIN THROUGH THE CHIMNEY!
Years later, the memory of this story becomes a project in the renovation of part of the Cardona farmhouse.
As if another lightning had entered and was petrified just at the moment of the fall, captured in the zigzagging of the walls of the project. BAAAANNNGGGG! BOOOUUUMMMMMM! CRACK CRACK CRACK CRACK
But, as in most good stories, after the storm the calm comes again and the clouds clear up… and only stone will remain from the lightning…
The RELÁMPAGO HOUSE is a project that talks about one of our great interests in spatial exploration: morphology and colour approached from fantasy. We used the incredible story of a lightning that crossed the house years ago as a starting point for the design.
Our main intention in this renovation is to create a different architectural experience, far away from the anodyne interiors we are used to. We approached this challenge with a zigzagging geometric distribution, which shapes the different rooms of the interior. The angular shapes and lines flow and blend into each other, creating a surprising visual and spatial effect.
In addition to the shape of the space, we believe that colour is a basic factor in achieving a stimulating and unconventional visual effect. We decided to use a wide range of colours, applying them strategically to the different rooms and plans of the house. This vibrant palette allowed us to highlight shapes and volumes, creating a surprising atmosphere. In this way, we challenge the usual spatiality of our client to awaken a different look at his daily life indoors.
With this project, we highlight the value of architecture as a form of artistic and emotional expression, freeing us from the monotony of everyday life. The lightning house invites us to experiment, explore and live the space in an unexpected way. We are excited to think that, by means of this particular plastic art, we can manage to stimulate a different look where imagination and desire are the leading players in the process of bringing emotions to life inside a 50-square-metre house.
