Mina: A Piece of Italy in Barcelona
Three partners – Oliviero, Jacopo, and Ricky – have brought the essence of northern Italy, their homeland, to Barcelona with the opening of the restaurant MINA. This new space is not just a tribute to their roots but also a fusion that reflects the cities that have shaped their culinary path, such as Paris and London. The design of Mina combines the sophistication of European capitals with the warm, inviting spirit of an Italian osteria, resulting in a modern tavern that brings the soul of Italy to the heart of Casanova Street.
No Spaghetti Here!
Barcelona is filled with long, narrow venues, often referred to as “spaghetti” due to their elongated shape and limited street visibility. At MINA, this layout is transformed into an opportunity: the length of the space becomes a journey. From the moment you step through the glass door, you enter a space designed to surprise at every turn. A thoughtful combination of materials, varied volumes, and strategically placed lighting guides you as you move forward, creating comfortable, inviting corners throughout.
A Journey of Discovery
The experience begins in a spacious waiting area, featuring blue flooring and wooden accents. Mirrors help to expand the space, guiding diners past tables filled with animated conversations. At the center of the restaurant, a 5-meter stainless steel bar serves as the focal point for those seeking a more casual experience, where sharing tapas and drinks in a relaxed setting is encouraged.
As you progress through the space, the journey leads to a more intimate area at the back of the restaurant, where cozy tables provide the perfect setting for guests looking to extend their evening. The upholstered bench here offers a comfortable retreat where meals are savored without haste, and conversations naturally stretch into the night.
Elements, Light, and Textures
Mina’s interior is defined by two key elements: a prismatic stainless steel bar illuminated by a suspended linear light, and a high steel and mirror table that wraps around a central pillar. This pillar, like a fractal at the heart of the space, catalyzes everything around it, turning the rear of the restaurant into an almost dreamlike scene.
The wooden shelves that weave along the restaurant’s walls not only showcase Italian wines and other products but also craft a narrative that accompanies diners throughout their experience.
Carefully selected lamps cast soft light over the tables, while the interplay of wood, thick fabric curtains, and concrete flooring reflects the identity of northern Italy, imbued with a modern touch that complements the restaurant’s culinary vision.
The Bathroom, Please?
When you ask for the bathroom, prepare for one last surprise: an unexpected space filled with color and mystery, just when you thought you had seen all that Mina has to offer.
